Apple is holding its “Let Loose” launch event today (7 May), where we expect to see new iPad releases and a refreshed Apple Pencil. But it looks like the stylus reveal is going to be a bigger deal than we first thought. It appears that Apple is going to release an Apple Pencil Pro model, with this big feature headlining the accessory.

How do we know it’s going to be an Apple Pencil Pro model? A Twitter/X tipster spotted references to the Apple Pencil Pro in the alt text for an image on Apple’s website in Japan. Usually, when titbits are spotted on Apple’s website, they’re removed. But you’ll still find this mention on the Japanese site. It’s certainly pretty convincing that this will be the stylus that launches today.
And it’s slated to come with an eraser function as the headlining new feature. We’ve heard rumours of it for a while, but Apple is teasing the feature on its website ahead of the event. You can drag your cursor around to erase the event invite logo. Subtle, right? The eraser would either be at the bottom of the stylus (like a real pencil), or through an interchangeable tip that’s been rumoured.
Besides the eraser feature, there’s plenty more to expect from the new Apple Pencil Pro. Rumours suggest it may have a new “squeeze” gesture for certain actions, and support visionOS eventually to control the Apple Vision Pro headset. Whatever arrives, it’s pretty certain this new Pencil will be a big deal, since it’s shown in the invite graphic.
