Today’s “Let Loose” launch event from Apple saw big new additions to the iPad line-up. Extra power thanks to the latest chips promise exceptional performance. But while the spotlight was on the hardware, Apple also rolled-out some new AI-powered features for the new slates. And they’re a tasty look at what’s to come from the tech giant later this year.

Final Cut Pro 2 and Logic Pro 2 both received big upgrades. Live Multicam is a new feature that lets you connect and preview up to four cameras at once in the app. You’ll need the new Final Cut Camera app on your other iPhone or iPad devices, but they include pro control options. You can also now edit footage from external devices plugged into your iPad.

The new Session Players feature in Logic Pro 2 has been built on AI to give you extra instrument options. If you don’t have the original stem, the app will now extract the voice, bass, drums, and other instruments to give you a starting point to remix.

Plus, the ChromaGlow feature models sounds produced by a blend of the world’s most revered studio hardware. It’s all thanks to some clever AI processing. You can work on the perfect tone with five different saturation styles to add more realistic warmth, presence, and punch to any track. You can also choose from modern, nostalgic, vintage, or more extreme styles that you can shape and mould to your taste.

Elsewhere, the new M4 chipset is designed for AI processing. Not only is it 50% faster than the M2 processor, but it’s also built for AI tasks. There’s a new Neural Engine which can process 38 trillion operations per second – exactly what you’d need to run an AI model locally. Apple reckons it’s better than any neural processing in any other AI PC out there.

Apple seems to be setting the stage for an AI reveal at the upcoming WWDC 2024. The tech giant has published a number of AI models which can run locally on your iPhone. It signals plans to release some big AI-powered features, which the rumour mill is also pretty certain of. In addition to new features, a revamped Siri is almost certainly on the cards.
